Recruiting is funny. Some days are good. Some days are great. Some days you just get your ass kicked. Some years are great, and others are awful. Yes, I have seen them all. Sometimes you feel like you are at a blackjack table and you can’t lose. Other times, you feel like you are on one of the worst losing streaks ever and just can’t seem to catch a break.

How is 2016 going to play out? There are still lots of questions.

If recruiting was easy, everyone would be doing it. If you are a manager, the whole recruiting process can be exhausting. It is very time consuming and when you find the perfect candidate, things just seem to go wrong. If you are a recruiter, don’t forget you are in a sales job and you will lose some deals!

It happens.

Get over it. In this economy, get over it very quickly.

There is no time to feel sorry for yourself. There is no time to get down. The next best thing is just around the corner. That next best thing, could be the best hire you have ever made.

It is easy to get pissed off. Believe me when I tell you that I understand. I completely understand! Losing sucks.

The interesting thing about streaks is they all come to an end. A winning streak comes to an end, and a losing streak comes to an end. Eventually it will happen.

Be ready.

If you want to be successful in recruiting, you have to be resilient. It is easier said than done, but if you are going to make it in this highly competitive market you have to dust yourself off.

Sometimes it is time to re-think your strategy. Maybe what you are doing to attract and hire your recruits is NOT the best way to attract the candidates. Take this baseball analogy. Going to bat with a bad stance will never yield the results that you want. If you make a few minor adjustments, your luck may change and you may be getting on base more often.

Don’t forget it.

We all go through these times. Celebrate the small wins when you are in a funk. Hitting a home run out of the park is fun, but if you haven’t gotten on base in a while, just getting on base is an accomplishment!

Back to 2016. Oil prices are hitting lows we haven’t seen in years. It is an election year. The stock market has taken a hit. LinkedIn stock has dropped in half. January was not one of the best months for hiring. There are still a lot of question marks about how 2016 will play out.

Regardless, there will STILL be hiring this year.

Keep movin’. Keep recruiting. Always have a Plan B.

You will need it this year.

That much I can promise you.

Trust me.
